Leave a gift to Causeway in your will

What legacy would you like to leave in this world?

Donating to Causeway allows you to leave a legacy of real change in your local community. Your legacy can be breaking down the stigmas associated with mental health issues and other disabilities. Your legacy can be ensuring everyone is able to pursue their passion, achieve independence, and find meaningful work – regardless of their background or their story.

Imagine having a passion for cooking. You have the drive, the skill, even the education – but your anxiety made it impossible to work in a regular kitchen. That was the case for Mark. Mark had over 25 years of culinary experience when he, unfortunately, had to go on disability leave for his anxiety disorder. He was devastated. He loved working in the kitchen, but the high stress and fast-paced environment made him unable to continue the work that he cherished.

But, Mark worked hard to manage his anxiety and has found his way back to his passion. Donors like you helped Mark find employment at Krackers Katering, a Causeway Social Business, where he is responsible for doing food prep, making sandwiches, preparing entrees, and assembling some of the platter orders. allowed him to his own pace more conducive for learning.

“All kitchens are usually high stress, but Krackers is different. It’s hard to get the same kind of understanding [for my disability] somewhere else than what you get here.”

Here is what donors Leah and Jeff had to say about making a donation through their wills:

“Leaving a gift to Causeway in our will allows us to take care of our family first, but still reduce future estate taxes and create a legacy to help those suffering from mental illness. It is important to us that we’ll be making a gift that will far exceed what we had ever thought was possible during our lifetimes.

We chose to make our gift to the Causeway Foundation Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of Ottawa because it’s comforting to know that the money we donate will exist in perpetuity, and the income on that fund will provide a steady source of support to a cause that is very close to our hearts.”

How do you leave a legacy gift?

There are many ways to show your commitment to Causeway through legacy giving, with the most common being a bequest through your will. You do not have to rewrite your existing will, just add “Causeway Foundation” as a beneficiary which will allow your estate to receive a tax receipt for the full amount given.

No matter how you decide to leave your legacy, we recommend that you discuss your plans with your family and a financial advisor.
