Thanks to you, our donors and partners, Causeway Foundation has been able to disburse a total of $58,964 to Causeway Work Centre this year!

The majority of the funds will go to Cycle Salvation, a Causeway social business that employs Causeway clients to refurbish bicycles otherwise destined for landfills. For many clients, gaining experience at Cycle Salvation is a stepping stone to future employment at other bike shops around the city.

“The Causeway Foundation’s fundraising efforts are critical to the Work Centre’s ongoing sustainability and growth,” says Causeway Work Centre Executive Director, Don Palmer. “The clients we serve have multiple challenges and multiple needs. The funding environment in which we operate becomes increasingly more competitive each year and the Work Centre must rely on other sources of income to keep [our] programs and services up and running. The Causeway Foundation is central to helping fill that need.”

The rest of the money will be used to meet program needs that would otherwise be left unfunded, such as rent for the room regularly occupied by the Solutions for Youth program. The program helps youth who self-identify as having a mental illness develop the skills and work habits needed to gain employment or return to school.

The Solutions for Youth room resembles a classroom, bright and sunny, with posters all over the walls showing the careers the participants are interested in exploring. Aside from being essential to the program’s continued operation, the room is also a safe space for vulnerable youth to begin to think critically and creatively about their career paths.

Our donors ensure that individuals with barriers to employment are given the support they need to succeed. Thank you for your dedicated support!

Our gratitude also goes out to the many supporting partners we have had this past year, including Cracking-Up the Capital, Bon Appetit Ottawa, XO Velo, Somersault, Orange Art Gallery, and Public Safety Canada.
