About the Community Kitchen
Each Friday afternoon for four weeks, Mike Collins, a Causeway client and employee of Krackers Katering, teaches 5 to 6 participants how to cook healthy, nutritious meals on a limited budget. The program helps clients identify healthier food choices and implement creative ways to stretch their budget and make healthier meals for themselves and their families. Participants choose four meals collectively with the instructor, and help in the planning, shopping and cooking of the meals. Each Community Kitchen participant gets to take five portions of the meal home with them each week. A recipe book and nutritional guide is given to all clients who participate in the program. The Community Kitchen is open to clients of Causeway’s employment programs and social businesses as part of our holistic approach to helping people reach their employment goals.
Mike Collin explains the difference the Community Kitchen has made in his life, in this video produced by Carleton Journalism Students Maya Hamovitch, Emma Loop and Jessica Wong:
Thank you again to the board and volunteers of Bon Appetit for all their hard work!
