As the new Executive Director of Causeway, I would like to take this moment to thank the Boards, staff and clients for a warm and supportive welcoming over the past few weeks. I have only just begun my journey here, but it has already been a tremendous experience knowing that I am leading an organization like no other.
Causeway is a not-for-profit community economic development agency that helps people with barriers to employment find meaningful work. What makes us truly unique is our approach to employment. We understand that it takes more than just looking for a job to be ready for lasting and meaningful employment. That’s why we offer our clients a variety of services to help them begin their job search from a stable and healthy starting point. In addition to these services, Causeway also has 3 social businesses, Krackers Katering, Cycle Salvation, and Good Nature Groundskeeping. The growth and success of our businesses has allowed us to provide our clients with the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience and has allowed us to become a leader in our community in social enterprise. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue growing our impact through our social businesses and our employment programs and services.
Having lived in Ottawa for most of my life, and attending Ottawa U while working through a Fellowship program at the YMCA-YWCA, I have a broad and deep understanding of not only the needs of our community but also the many assets we have in this great city. Through my community development experiences with the Y, my philanthropic impact investment work with United Way and the McConnell Foundation, and my business consulting work with health services and the Family Enterprise Xchange, I have a developed a personal mission to strengthen the collaboration between our public, not-for-profit and private sectors to create measurable community impact. I feel proud to be leading an agency like Causeway because I know that Causeway’s mission aligns with my own.
Over the next few months, as I continue to deepen my understanding of our emerging needs and the impacts we strive to achieve, my focus will be on strengthening our employment programs, growing our social enterprises, and creating new innovative partnerships to address the needs of our most vulnerable citizens.
With these interests in mind, I invite those I’ve worked with over the years along with new community stakeholders to connect with me. Through these connections, I value the opportunity to explore the possibilities of working together—to continue building Ottawa as the most vibrant, productive and inclusive community for all.
Be the change you want to see happen.
I look forward to connecting with you.
